Acoustic Guitar
You will learn simple strumming and then start more varied accompaniment techniques like bass strum, finger picking, broken chords and double time strumming.
I also have some exercises in melody playing, including some played exercises with backing tracks.
You can also learn Travis Picking and other solo guitar styles. I have a number of Solo Guitar Studies demonstrating these techniques.
I have a library of music so you can learn complete songs. I can also teach you how to arrange a song for acoustic guitar and vocals.
I usually recommend a Steel String instrument though you can learn on a Nylon string instrument to begin with.

Classical Guitar
I can prepare you to take Classical Guitar exams up to Grade 5 standard. I usually recommend Trinity Guildhall as I have put a number of students through them over the last few years. I am happy to help with Aural and Sight Reading tests for these grades too.
I am happy to help with other exam boards as well though I must confess I am less familiar with the repertoire.
If you just want to learn Classical Guitar for fun you can work with me on pieces that build up a repertoire of pieces up to around Grade 5 standard.

Classical Guitar

The acoustic guitar has a dynamic range and my electric guitar students who have gone from electric to acoustic often find it hard to adjust to this at first.

If you are buying your first acoustic guitar, buy the best you can afford. Very cheap instruments are made with poorer quality wood, usually all laminates and may lack a little in tone.

Further up the price range you will find instruments featuring solid wood tops, which give a fuller, more resonant tone.

At the top end, instruments feature all solid woods but you will pay a lot more on a guitar made this way.
